Owh ya... forgot to tell you... Nikon released D3000... a 3" big screen, 10.2 MP, entry level DSLR... can consider if you want... priced less than RM 2.4k if not mistaken...

Try Leica lens. Very nice.
much better detail than cannon, nikon, pentax lens.

Mine not SLR, but is Panasonic+Leica lens.
You can try it as it is cheaper than SLR.

It's undeniable, Leica lens is one of the best around... That still depends on Viv lo... whether she needs an SLR or just a simple compact... but apparently, she's so obsessed with the equipments rather than the skills sometimes...

The Leica Rangefinder is more advanced with all the SLR functions, but it's going to cost more than RM 15k!!! But I definitely love their design and style. :)

I quite satisfied with my
2005 Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2.
RM1000+ that time, a sub-compact using AA batteries.
Max 5MP, 6x optical zoom, 24x with digital zoom.

Nowadays, this kind of camera would be more compact, cheaper, and higher MP.

The truth is, anything above 7MP, is already very good... cause we're not printing it at 24R or billboard size mar... just 4R... even my 4MP camera can have the same quality as my other 7MP camera... haha

Panasonic Lumix has very good lenses... if you love Leica lens, can consider G1 lor...
